Singer-Songwriter Liam Wakefield steps off the frontline and onto the stage.
Still a serving soldier in the British Army, 28-year-old Liam has found a sound that reflects and evokes the feelings of the exciting and dangerous life he has lived. After seeing combat in Afghanistan and deploying all over the world for the past eight years, a debilitating medical condition now brought an abrupt end to his Army career. This spurred him to pick the guitar up and continue a music career he abandoned almost a decade ago.
The former Black Arrows frontman came so close to tasting music success back in early 2008, but a desire to fight was too strong and so Liam enlisted in the Infantry, and before long found himself on the frontline in Afghanistan. For years music was always something in the back of his mind, and a guitar was never too far.
His debut single, ‘Thirteen Gardens’ is set for release on the 26/07/19. Written in the heart of Paris, this song captures the taste of classic Americana with a helping of modern Indie-Folk, it has been performed with a full band, which shows the diverse range Liam has from being able to perform melancholy solo songs to upbeat, full band songs. His influences are that of early Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, but also a more modern interest in Americana songwriters such as Noah Gunderson and The Lumineers.
Thirteen Gardens is already proving to be the perfect summer song, seeing radio play on; Forest FM, Burgess Hill Radio, Hard Rock Hell Radio(Friday Night Rock) and Hospital Radio Crawley.
The Sussex born songwriter has already been dubbed as a hit within then underground music scene in Sussex, Hampshire and Dorset, this being recently voiced by host Jack Willard, on the Playlist Podcast.
Though Liam is still in the infancy of his solo career, he has already sparked a great deal of interest, and no matter what the venue, or audience, Liam always provides an intimate and passionate performance which is felt by all.
This year has already been immensely busy, and Liam has played over 70 shows since January. It has also led to him landing a prime spot at Wickham Festival among some big names, Winchestival at Guildhall Winchester, the Lighthouse in Poole, the G-live in Guildford and most impressively, the 02 Academy Islington which is set to take place November the 9th.
Liam played at The Joiners - Southampton for me. Fantastic energy and sits comfortably in any slot on the line-up. Definitely a talent to look out for in the very near future!
